Congregational Meeting
November 3rd @ 6:30 in the Gathering Place.

Dear church family,

Much has happened in our church over the last year. In July, Carla & I returned from our nine month sabbatical. That same month Pastor Carey Willis and his family moved away from Linden to a new home and work, near and in Edmonton. Finally, the upheaval of the Covid years has required a lot of time subsequently to figure out who we are again.

Yet here we are, near the end of the Year of our Lord 2024, and God, as always, has shown Himself faithful. We have so much to be thankful for. With all the changes, it feels like the right moment to acknowledge a fresh start to our church: to say to one another, and to our Lord, that we're still okay, and that we have every reason to hope for a good future.

On October 29th Leadership Team will set the agenda for the meeting and here are three interesting items which will be discussed:

  1. First, the purpose of the sabbatical was for me to have time to think through important issues in our church and society. The primary theme of that thinking was the matter of fruit-bearing. I have presented my thoughts and plans to the Leadership Team on October 15, and now I wish to do the same for the congregation. It is a vision for bringing our secular Canadian neighbour into a personal relationship with Jesus the King, with a special emphasis on the Word that can and needs to be said.
  2. Second, quite a lot has been done in arranging how the church is staffed, now that we no longer have an associate pastor. An Administrative Assistant to the Pastor has been hired, and we also would like to put under contract a trained Christian counsellor. These should be agreed to by the congregation.
  3. Third, our financial situation has also changed because of the new staff organization, and it will be reported as to where things now stand with respect to the budget and the bank balance.

LMBC is genuinely a congregational church, not just in aspiration, but in reality. That has meant that our congregational meetings have consistently been encouraging and inspiring (and not dull or drab as might be expected) because of how people take ownership for this exceptional community of love and service. If you have received this email, you are welcome to come and be part of this special work of the Holy Spirit. Join us!

The meeting is at Linden Mennonite Brethren Church in the Gathering Place at 6:30, Sunday evening, November 3.

Faithfully yours,

Pastor Kris
